Questions
- Is TameTV out yet?
- Not yet. It's in development. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when it's ready.
- Which TVs will it run on?
- Android TV and Google TV, Android 9 and up, including the sets where Google's own controls are missing. It won't run on Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Samsung or LG. See which TVs it's expected to work on.
- Can it filter what's inside YouTube?
- No. TameTV limits YouTube time. It can't filter inside the real YouTube app, because Google doesn't let other apps see what's playing there. Later, a safe YouTube mode will play only the channels you approve.
- Has it been tested on my TV?
- Not yet. The compatibility pages say "Expected" because they come from platform research. We'll test on real TVs, starting with Xiaomi, and mark each one "Tested" once it has been.
- My TV has no kids profile, or Family Link doesn't work on it. Will TameTV?
- That's who it's for. TameTV doesn't rely on Google's kids profiles or Family Link. It needs Android 9 or newer and the permissions explained in how it will work.
- Can my kid get around it?
- TameTV is built to resist a determined kid. Settings and the Play Store stay locked for kids, the lock screen appears as soon as a blocked app opens, and you can make TameTV hard to uninstall. No app can promise a kid will never find a way, so the dashboard warns you if a permission is switched off or a TV stops checking in.
- Do I need a computer or any technical know-how?
- No. You set it up on the TV with the remote and pair it with your phone. No computer, cables or factory reset.
- Can each kid have their own limits?
- Yes. Each kid gets a profile with their own budget, app limits and allowed hours, picked on a "Who's watching?" screen. There's no limit on the number of kids.
- What happens when time runs out?
- A small banner warns 5 minutes and 1 minute before. Then a lock screen says why and when the TV unlocks. If only one app's time is used up, only that app locks.
- Can I give extra time?
- Yes. Add 15, 30 or 60 minutes from your phone, wherever you are, or on the TV with your PIN.
- Does it record what my kid watches?
- No. TameTV counts time per app. It doesn't record the screen or what's playing.
- Does it work without internet?
- Yes. The TV keeps your rules and keeps counting while it's offline, and catches up when it's back. You need internet to change settings from your phone.
- How much will it cost?
- Launch pricing is $2.99 a month for one TV, or $4.49 a month for up to 10 TVs, with 30% off yearly and a 14-day free trial. Waitlist members get 20% off. See launch pricing.
- What do you do with my email?
- We send one email to confirm it, then updates about TameTV and the founder price. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Details are in the privacy policy.
- Will it come in other languages?
- English comes first. German, Ukrainian and Polish are next.
